Pet Peeve Department – Silly Advertising

This is one for my Pet Peeves Department.  Advertising for idiots, or, should I say, advertising TO idiots.

Ever see an ad, particularly in the start-exchange industry, that you are forced to look at when you are trying to log into your account?  I do not mean an ad or banner on the log in page, I am talking about the page that pops up after you log in, but before you are allowed access to your account, often several pages that you have to scroll down through before you get to where you can click to move on?  What you have to click is a line similar to “Ok, I fully understand I will never have the opportunity to take you up on this offer again, so, with that in mind, please please let me log into my account” and finally you get in.

First of all, it wastes my time.  If its going to be there at all, and it should not be,  make it short in length to fit the page, with a big no thanks button right there so you can move on immediately.  I do not need to scroll down several pages to have the opportunity to pass on your once in a lifetime offer that I see everyday when I log in.

Second of all, what is the hurry?  If this offer has any value, it should be available to everyone at any time for some time to come.  Do you really think the hype will end today with this ad and nothing will ever be offered again as a once in a lifetime value?  Please, stop treating your subscribers as idiots. Think about it.  An offer that I do not have time to think over is somehow going to benefit me more then one that I can take my time considering?  Rubbish.

Comments appreciated.

Yes unfortunately a lot of the ad exchanges I deal with every day seem to have the same problem. I see the same ad over and over and over. Its not really a one time offer when you see it that many times. Sometimes I run new ads on the same exchange several times a day, I’m so disorganized that I have to relogin and see those ads, again and again.

Some are smart and have a skip link. But you would think that the webmaster would have scripting capabilities that would recognize I’m back, I already saw that ONE TIME OFFER!

Thanks for being brave enough to bring this out in the open. Maybe Just Maybe someone will clue in.

    Yes,
I agree that the infamous One Time Offer or OTO as it is called is just a ploy to get subscribers or purchases now. I have often found that many affiliate programs just mimick or copy the same of strategies of other so called successful marketers. To anyone that reads this, remember that the proof is in the pudding! Moreover, if something sounds too good to be true it usually is! Most all advertising exchanges and strategies are over rated and under productive. I been working on building an honest business from scratch for about 10 years now on the net. It’s a slow process at best and burdened with many obstacles to overcome. Marketing is one of the things I enjoy doing and I’d like to think that I can look at an offer and tell you in about 10 minutes if it is a hock of crock or not!! Sadly, 99% of the offers you will receive in you inbox fall into this category. Don’t buy hype but facts. If an alledge guru is selling you some of his crock and their isn’t real contact information and a phone number whereby you can talk to a real person – don’t even waste your time. Too many dreams are busted this way. I’d be glad to share the truth with anyone that wants to hear it – 2293951064 anytime. I don’t always answer but I will always reply :)

I hate those things and I see them on some of the largest exchanges. they are annoying but I am guessing they are working for some. I have never tried them myself. I would like some more subscribers though. If I did try one, I would opt for the less annoying one. We use every penny we take in for paying advertising to extend the reach of our sites. This serves our members better and if I thought a quick OTO would help, I might try it. I would offer a lifetime membership or something and you would really only see it once, not every time you log in. I see the same OTO as the last time I logged in on some popular sites.

Now is not the time to reduce spending on advertising, an economic downturn is really the time to increase advertising a service like the ones we offer.

You are quite right Kevin, stepping away from advertising would be like shooting yourself in the foot especially in these times of financial worry.

Every penny we spend on advertising has to count. Not every dollar makes a sale.
Free Advertising is not all its cracked up to be, but I have found it works to recruit an advertising team. Whether its from traffic exchanges, safelists, or ad exchanges.

Its kinda like beating your head against a wall when your trying to submit a ton of ads in a short period of time and you have to look at someone elses more than once.

Time is money, Please don’t waste my time. My success in your business may very well be your golden egg.

An OTO page is designed to sell. The problem is that OTO will defeat it purpose when you see it again and again each time you log in to your account. Luckily, I don’t see that in AdsTrek.

TE owners should only use OTO when a new member login for the first time or when an inactive member login to reactivate their account or when there is a new launch (example Frank Kern’s Mass Control that goes online today) and the TE owner is one of the affiliates promoting it.

Ok, now that I’ve speak up my mind, I hope I won’t get banned by those owners who use OTO too much. Ha ha

I hear you loud and clear. It is extremely annoying and a waste of my precious time! My simple protest is to never, never, never read the OTO.
I can see making an offer to a first-timer but after that it is not appreciated. I know there are many (those publishing the OTO’s) that will disagree and find it a great marketing tool. I am not one of them.

    Sorry guys…

With everything which seems to be developing throughout this subject material, all your points of view tend to be quite radical. However, I beg your pardon, because I can not subscribe to your whole theory, all be it stimulating none the less. It looks to us that your comments are actually not completely rationalized and in actuality you are generally your self not completely confident of your point. In any event I did appreciate reading through it.
